The Burmese Military Southeast Region Command (MSRC) has stopped its local commander in Three Pagoda Pass from meeting the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) commander over the issue of mistakenly shooting
and killing two DKBA soldiers.
DKBA sources said MSRC stopped the commanders from both sides in Three Pagoda Pass from having a meeting to control the situation because the DKBA was not satisfied with the explanation that Captain Aung Bo Bo Myit’s troops killed two DKBA men on March 4 by mistake.
The DKBA No.901 commander, Lt.Col Soe Moe told the public yesterday that he was extremely unhappy over the killing of his men. DKBA was not satisfied with the Burmese troops giving out a separate version that they had a fight with Karen National Union (KNU) soldiers after the killing of two DKBA men and reported it to the Military Southeast Command. Burmese troops kept quiet about shooting the DKBA men.
The MSRC and DKBA leaders in Moulmein will negotiate first. And then the commander will allow local commanders of both sides to hold the meeting.
“Nothing was going on. Every thing was peaceful in the town. We heard about ten gunshots from the DKBA area,” Ko Myat, a resident said.
The MSRC ordered Major Hla Min, the commander of Infantry Battalion No.18 yesterday to compensate the DKBA for the deaths to the DKBA‘s satisfaction.
The DKBA claimed Aung Bo Bo Myit’s troops under the command of Maj Hla Min, shot the two DKBA soldiers who were sleeping under the net while they waited to collect tax from traders travelling along the Makatha natural road.
The DKBA is a Karen armed group, which reached a cease-fire with the Burmese military government and separated from the Karen National Revolution Army under the KNU.
