BREAKING NEWS: Rev.Uttama (or Wengka Abbot) Enters into Nivana
Wed 18 Oct 2006, Independent Mon News Agency
After he could not encounter Buddhist Law of Anisa (nobody can avoid the death), a well-known Mon Buddhist Abbot, Rev. Uttama, enters into Nivana (pass away) in the morning of today about 07:22 a.m. in Bangkok’s ‘Sirirat’ Hospital at age of 97 years.

Accordingly to source close to The Rev. Uttama, his followers are preparing to bring the corpse back to Wengka Wiweikaram Monastery in Wengka Mon Village in Sangkhlaburi District of Kanchanaburi Province in Thailand.

The Rev. Uttama has been hospitalized for over two years because of his elderly age, but he did not suffer from any type of diagnosis or disease. Medical experts and doctors have tried to save his life for over 2 years and but the day after yesterday they confirmed that they could not longer treat him.

His followers are in mourns and expresses grief in the whole Thailand because they lose a leader who provides shelters to the Mon people from Burma for many decades and who has much Mitta (loving) influence to Thai people.

He was also very well-known in Thailand by many Thai people. He was also well respectful by the Thai royal families and senior government and military officials.

He took refuge in Thailand soon after Burma’s Independence while the civil war was intensified – fighting between the ‘central government’ and ‘ethnic nationalities, Mon and Karen’.

He established Wengka Mon village with a few followers in 1956. Then he received thousands of Mon refugees who fled from war under his sheltering until 1990 by the help of Thai authorities.

He also supported a lot of social supports to the Thai government such as establishment of schools, hospitals and clinics, bridges and roads.

Note: Details of his biography and the opinions from his followers will be contributed by IMNA soon.
