A lesser number of boys and more girls have been attending Mon summer schools, a Mon monk said at the closing ceremony of the Mon summer school in Paung Township.
Ajar Eindeka, a Mon monk from Lawi Marn Htaw monastery in Kamarwet village in Mudon Township said he was sad because about 67 male students attended out of nearly 700 students in the summer school examination at the state level.
"I don't know how to solve the problem of fewer boys attending school. More boys should attend," Ajar Eindeka said.
Among the students, only two boys got prizes out of 577 students who sat for the summer school examinations.
In summer school, Mon teachers teach seven levels like Hongsawatoi History, Mattama History, Mon culture (part-1), Mon culture (part-2), Mon ancient literature history, Suvarnabhumi history, and Philosophy.
The Mon Literature and Culture Committee in Paung Township awarded five prizes at each level and 35 students got prizes in the examination at the state level. The committee gave the prizes to Mi Htaw Lon for Hongsawatoi history, Mi Seik Htaw for Mattama history, Mi Hongsar Htaw for Mon culture (part-1), Marm Chan Done for Mon culture (part-2), Mi Layeah Htaw for Mon ancient literature history, Mi Sonelar Non for Suvarnabhumi history, and Kyaik Soie Non for Philosophy.
About 1,000 students attended the closing cerebrations in Paung Township. The number of students in Mon summer school this year decreased compared to last year.
The Chairman of the Mon Literature and Culture Committee in Mon State encouraged activists teaching in the summer schools to try harder in the future. The Committee imparts education to over 60,000 students each year.
