Over 1500 monks protest in Moulmein

Over 1500 monks from various monasteries in Moulmein began to protest after the association of monks asked the people and monks to join the on going demonstrations.

"Currently monks are walking in Mupon, Myaing Tharyar, Zay Gyi, Kyaik Thanlan area. But there is no interference by the authorities yet. Monks are reading the Buddhist teachings – the Dhamma," said a resident.

Thousand of people paid obeisance and watched the monks. More than five thousands of people followed the monks and gave them drinking water. About a hundred of university student followed the monks.

Monks in Moulmein are gearing up for many days when monks in Rangoon were staging protests.

Yesterday Thein Pyuu monastery and Seinn Ma Ma monastery gave permission to monks to protest peacefully in Myaing Yadana market (Zay Gyi). According to monks in Moulmein, they will also march on the ensuing full moon day.
