House reduced to ashes in Three Pagoda Pass
Mon 28 Jan 2008, Loa Htaw, IMNA
A house in Three Pagoda Pass (TPP) Township on the Thai-Burma border was burnt to the ground, said eyewitnesses.

The house caught fire at about 8:10 pm and was put out at about 9:10 pm on Saturday night but the house was reduced to ashes.

"Fire fighters and locals struggled to put out the fire and fire engines arrived shortly after the fire began," said an eye witness. "Poor firefighting equipment was partly to blame" he claimed.

Many residents helped firefighters to fight the fire in an attempt to stop the fire from spreading to adjacent houses.

Locals are still unsure how the house caught fire.

The house was owned by U Aung Nyut and Daw Khin Htay Win and was rented out to a food vendor, said another resident. The value of the house is thought to be about one million Baht, he said.

Neighbours suspect the fire began from candles or 'steam boat' cooking.

"Electricity supply to the house had been cut two months ago and the fire may have begun from a candle or 'steam boat'," said a neighbour.
