Fuel price soars 30 percent in Southern Burma
Wed 06 Aug 2008, IMNA
Price of fuel has spiraled by 30 percent in Southern Burma and there is a gap between prices prevailing in Rangoon, the largest city in Burma.

Price of fuel has been soaring over the last two weeks, from 5,000 Kyat to 6,500 Kyat per gallon of diesel while for gasoline it rose from 5,000 to 5,500 Kyat per gallon.

The price of gas has risen nearly a thousand Kyat according to a fuel dealer because they have to pay transportation costs and have to buy a step at a time from the trader.

"The price is increasing daily and some areas paid up to 6,700 Kyat for diesel," a customer said.

"If you buy in a bottle (six bottles per gallon) you have to pay up to 1,200 Kyat per bottle," he added.

According to the government's fixed price, diesel is 3,000 Kyat per gallon while gasoline is 2,500 Kyat. But in the black market in Ba Yint Naung the selling price for diesel is 5700 Kyat while the buying price is 5200 Kyat.

Diesel costs around 280,000 to 300,000 Kyat per drum while gasoline is 250,000 to 270,000 Kyat. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………… For further information please contact to imna_news@yahoo.com , www.monnews-imna.com Contact Editor: 66 (0) 81 3659140 (or) 66 (0) 892 072 825, Please visit Burma News International Web-site: www.bnionline.net, in which IMNA is a member.
