Rest of Tsunami affected migrant workers to be resettled About a 100 Burmese migrant workers in a village in Ranong district, who were affected by Tsunami and had not received help for more than a year are being given shelter by a Thai NGO and organizations helping migrants. “We are collecting the list of the remaining people. We already have about a hundred people on the list,” said Ko Thet Oo, one of the implementing authorities. Yesterday a Thai NGO joined hands with an organization helping migrants in the area and identified land for building a shelter and contacted the landowner. “We will build about 15 rooms and hope it can be shared by 18 families. We will construct a big room where about 10 migrants can stay,” a monk who is helping in the project said. According to the members of the organization helping migrants, many Burmese migrants living in the area are facing hardship given their poor income levels and a paucity of buildings following the Tsunami. Most Burmese migrants in the area live in small huts. Some migrant workers have already been resettled in shelters by NGOs and organizations helping migrant workers. |
