Military government to sell ship belonging to smugglers IMNA The Burmese military government is gearing up to sell a ship, which was used to smuggle a huge amount of drugs along the Andaman Sea in 2004. The ship was anchored in an island called Kulagok situated about 380 miles of Rangoon , after about 30 smugglers killed each other on the ship in June 2004. Local authorities claim the ship was from Malaysia and was called Minadahlia. Local Burmese navy commandeered the ship since then and tried to sell the ship to a Japanese company, source close to the navy said. Eight people including the Burmese military authorities and the Japanese inspected the ship in Kulagok navy base on February 2 and February 8. Now senior military officials have ordered village headman U Mine and military units from artillery battalion No.31 to give back the cargo that they took and kept from the ship. But, sources could not confirm how much the military authorities are going to sell the ship, which is quite big. When the ship was seized local authorities found some gold bars and guns on board. Later authorities seized 830 Kilograms of drugs from a military veteran's house in a coastal village near the island. Authorities claimed the case was linked to the ship. |
